Arnaldo Camuffo, Scientific Director
Arnaldo Camuffo, Scientific Director of the Lean Enterprise Center, Italy, is Professor of Business Organization at Bocconi University, Milan.
Previously, he taught at the University of Padova and at the University of Venice and held visiting positions at the Industrial Performance Center of M.I.T., the School of Management of the University of Michigan, Dearborn and at the Universidad Deusto, San Sebastian.
He holds a BS and a PhD in Business Administration from the University of Venice, and a Master of Science in Management (SM’90), from the Sloan School of Management M.I.T.
After joining the International Motor Vehicle Program at M.I.T. in the early 1990, he started working on Lean, visiting Japan several times, studying the Toyota production systems and its application in Italian firms across the world.
He has published books (the most recent is Automation in Automotive Industries. Recent Developments, Berlin, Springer, 1999 with A. Comacchio and G. Volpato), articles and essays on Lean (among them “Rolling out a “world car”: globalization, outsourcing and modularity in the auto industry” in Korean Journal of Political Economy, 2004, “Partnering in the global auto industry: the FIAT-GM strategic alliance”, in International Journal of Automotive Technology and Management, 2002 (with Giuseppe Volpato) , “Italy: changing the workplace in the auto industry”, in T.A. Kochan, R.D. Lansbury, J.P. Arnaldo Camuffo has taught undergraduate and graduate courses, is involved in executive education, and helps several firms applying Lean thinking principles and tools.
